1984 multipage document design

BRIEF:

Propose and design a new edition of a public domain text.
You are required to design twelve spreads (ten page spreads plus front and back covers).
The spreads would usually, but do not have to be, sequential.
The text can be long, like a novel (in which case you would only design a part of it) or short, like a poem (in which case you would design a complete edition) or anything in- between.
You can work in any medium and in any format, and make a physical submission for assessment if you wish.

EXPLAINATION:

I imagined what a book like 1984 would look like if the ‘Big Brother’ really existed and the world was under a really strict dictatorship like in the book and all the fundamental rights were taken away.
I chose to represent this vision with the theme of censorship that in the book is represented by the black lines that prevent the reader to actually read the book; since I only had 10 spreads to work with I exasperated the concept by making up different levels of censorships represented by the eye (closed= no censorship, wide open= no words) and make the first spreads readable but as you flick through the pages you find everything has been censored.
With this project I also wanted to critique censorship and take a stand for freedom of speech and print as this book was actually censored for a brief period because it was labeled as communist. I believe nothing should be censored and that the government cannot take away fundamental freedoms like this one. Even if a book was really controversial it still needs to be readable as it is part of history and every one of us has a critical mind and can distinguish what is right. An example is Hitler’s book ‘Mein Kampf’; this book contains probably the most controversial and racist opinions ever written but it should not be banned or canceled because it is a piece of history and can remind people what happened during those times.
